The logistics group is constructing the largest parcel centre in Germany, near Frankfurt/Main, that will be the first in the country to have a sorting capacity of 50,000 items an hour.
"This investment represents another important milestone for our new parcel concept and our network capacity," said Uwe Brinks, Chief Production Officer at Deutsche Post DHL.
The 40,000sq metre state-of-the-art facility is scheduled to begin operations in spring of 2014.
Brinks said it would create some 600 new jobs, both in parcel sorting and delivery. A delivery base connected directly to the sorting centre will also be built and help further shorten parcel transit times.
