Maersk launches ME4

Maersk Line is to launch its ME4 container service, linking India, the Middle East and the Mediterranean, in November.

The ME4 port rotation will be Jebel Ali, Nhava Sheva (Jawaharlal Nehru), Jeddah, Malta, Algeciras, Tangier, Genoa, Jeddah and back to Jebel Ali.

The Danish carrier said the new service would use vessels of 4,500teu.

The service will connect at Tangier with Maersk’s Rumba service, which will be merged into MSC’s Spain Loop 2 Service.

The merged Rumba Service, deploying six 6,000teu vessels, will call Gioia Tauro, Valencia, Algeciras, Pecem, Salvador, Paranagua, Itapoa, Imbituba, Santos, Las Palmas, Tangier, Algeciras and Gioia Tauro.

“The new service allows for a more cost beneficial operation in the current trading environment and reflects the current market demand in this trade,” Maersk said.
